Steroids Were Just a Foot In The Door

Here is the basic problem. Not enough people complained when Congress decided to stick it's nose in the business of major league sports with its steroid hearings, and its threats against the leagues to add government regulation. I can't find a post were I specifically condemned the hearings though I've been against them from the start, and I did ask this question. Now members of Congress want to do more with major league sports. Sen. Arlin Specter wants to bring the situation between the Eagles and T.O. in front of the anti-trust committee:

Sen. Arlen Specter accused the National Football League and the Philadelphia Eagles of treating Terrell Owens unfairly and said he might refer the matter to the antitrust subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs.

Specter said at a news conference Monday in Harrisburg it was "vindictive and inappropriate" for the league and the Eagles to forbid the all-pro wide receiver from playing and prevent other teams from talking to him.

"It's a restraint of trade for them to do that, and the thought crosses my mind, it might be a violation of antitrust laws," Specter said, though some other legal experts disagreed.

I guess the good Senator doesn't care that T.O. is an arrogant prick who deserved exactly what he got. Apparently he's forgotten that T.O. is under contract and that its the Eagles right not to release him under that extremely generous contract. I guess it doesn't matter that the majority of football watching Americans agree with what happened. Does Specter even care that the Eagles and T.O. went in front of a neutral arbitrator who decided completely with the Eagles? Apparently none of that is enough. Somehow Specter has decided that somewhere in this document, it gives him the right to overrule a contract dispute that was fairly decided within the terms of that contract. Remind me again, which article talks about the NFL? Article X? Or maybe it's the 4th and Goal Amendment. So how much did T.O. donate to your reelection campaign anyway?
