Now I Know Why Not Everyone Writes BooksWhen you talk to yourself in the car and everywhere else as often as I do, you start to convince yourself that if you were only able to transcribe all those thoughts onto paper, you'd have a book down in no time at all. Strange as it may seem (at least its strange to me), when you actually sit down and try to put those thoughts on screen, you start wondering whether you really had that many to begin with. This isn't like writing blog posts... which are generally short. We're talking about a book, which as I understand it, should be more than a few pages long. I mean come on, I started doing this yesterday. Shouldn't I have it half done by now? It's actually pretty funny to stare at the screen and see so many of my thoughts chained together. I actually have to scroll to read them. This is especially strange for me since I have very little patience reading some blogs. I have my regular reads... but depending on who's writing something, I quickly lose interest after a single post goes beyond a screen full. That's why I try to keep my posts to that length or shorter. Even my "in depth" analysis type posts only force my readers to scroll a little ways. Believe me, if I wanted to, I could go on and on about some topics. Maybe I should rename my blog to "Bite Size Nick" instead of "The World According to Nick". I'm also finding myself constantly backspacing over ellipsis. I just love those damn things... but Word's grammar check isn't so fond of them, and I suspect it probably wouldn't go so well in a book as it does on my blog. Maybe I shouldn't speak so quickly... it might not be going so well on my blog either. After all, I don't get nearly as much traffic as I'd like.
