No News Today

This news story from a European media outlet regarding an announcement from the FCC has me a little concerned:

Washington D.C. - Today the chairman of the Federal Communications Commission enacted a new rule to be in effect for the entire 1st day of April barring the reporting of all news. In a press announcement, the chairman said "The massive proliferation of these so called 'April Fool's jokes' throughout the media, and especially the internet has become a significant problem. The average person cannot tell what is real and what is fake any more today."

According to the new one day rule, failure to comply with the news blackout will result in a $10,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail. When reporters questioned the chairman about whether they would be allowed to announce the new rule on April 1st, the chairman responded "No. You'll have to wait until tomorrow." It is unclear whether this new rule has a blogger exemption.

Surely people can tell the difference between real news and April Fool's pranks. Can't we?
