Car BloggingI went to the Milwaukee Auto Show this weekend in search of my next new car. I went with my uncle and enjoyed the whole thing for the most part. I'm always amazed at how much they can actually fit in the Midwest Airlines Center. However, I was also disappointed in the number of mid-size two doors that are available... which are practically none. Likewise, I was disappointed in the engine sizes available in the smaller SUV's. I'm sorry, but a 4-cylinder engine is underpowered on a larger body like that... and I don't want a huge SUV. I'm having a hard enough time considering a small one. Finally, I was disappointed by the auto show chicks. Where were they? There were some nice looking "spokeswomen"... but nothing like some years past. So, with that said... here are some of the cars that I'm considering: Toyota Solara: They only had the convertible on display, and I would get the coupe, but I was pretty impressed. It was very comfortable for me to sit in (which is hard for someone who is 6'2"), and it has a decent engine (3.3L V6). Acura TL: This is not one I had on my list going in, but it's on my list now. It is a 4 door, but damn that was a nice car. Good engine, very comfortable and looks very nice. I know someone who has an earlier model, and he raves about it. Pontiac GTO: It's actually the Holden Monaro, but it felt right sitting in it (which is how I felt about my Grand Prix when I first sat in it). It's got a V8 and rear wheel drive (which I'm not sure I want), but it looks slick. The only problem is that it's pretty much take it or leave it. Everything comes standard, so you basically get an option of manual or automatic transmission, and a color. Dodge Stratus Coupe: This looked decent, and seemed like a good fit for me size wise... but also seemed kinda cheap. Maybe I'm just not a Dodge fan, but I walked away somewhat underwhelmed. Pontiac G6: This was on my list going in, but it's near the bottom if not completely off now. Like the Stratus Coupe, I left feeling less than impressed. They did have the 2 door version on display, but it looked ugly. They had slopped the back end in such a way that it looked like a hatch-back when it's not. Mitsubishi Outlander: This is the only SUV that I really sat in for a while that seemed nice to me. It does have a 4-cylinder, but decent horsepower and torque for its size. I suppose the only real reason this one sticks in my mind was because of the saleswoman at the Mitsubishi display. She looked a lot like Alicia Coppola. Yum... Seriously. My uncle started to get impatient when I kept talking with her.
If you're willing to spend a little extra money, take a look at the BMW 325i. Friend of mine is leasing one and REALLY likes it.
