Warning: These Nuts Contain Nuts

No... I'm not talking about these kinds of nuts (which I seem to be talking about a lot lately). I have in front of me a jar of Planters Dry Roasted Peanuts. On the label they dutifully list all the incredients:

Peanuts
Salt
Maltodextrin (all great foods have this after all)
Cornstarch (in peanuts?)
Corn Syrup Solids (huh?)

Then, right below the ingredients list, they have Allergy Information:

Manufactured on equipment that also processes tree nuts. May contain tree nuts.

The world has certainly gone to hell in a handbasket when we need to warn people buying a jar of nuts that those nuts are manufactured on equipment used to make... well... more nuts.

Of course peanuts aren't really nuts. They are a nodule that grows on the roots of a legume. In terms of allergies they are totally different from true "nuts" (or "tree nuts" as the label calls it.)

So there is a possibility that someone could want to eat peanuts, while being allergic to nuts.

But I don't know why nuts get all the attention. What about the people allergic to seafood, fish, gluten, grass products, lactose.... why aren't there lists of EVERY contaminant that a food could contain?
