I know I haven't been blogging a lot the last couple of days. One of the reasons is that I just started a new job on Monday. It's with a local consulting firm. Monday was pretty boring... just a lot of paperwork. Tuesday was likewise pretty boring since I didn't even have paperwork to do. Yesterday I started at my first client. That day was even worse. They didn't have a computer for me. I think someone figured I could just write code on a piece of paper and someone else could type it in. They ended up sending me home after lunch since the computer wouldn't be ready until today.
So I get in today and did they have a computer ready for me? Nope. It won't be ready until 3:00 at the latest. So 2:00 rolls around, and they tell me to go home again. They figure that even once the IT people come up (probably not until 3:00 on the button), it's still going to take them some time.
I swear to God that if I don't have my machine tomorrow I'm gonna go nuts. I can only read boring technical books and boring overview documents so many hours in a day. Wanna know what the best part is? It's all billable time. They know this, I know this. So when you're forking out that much money for my time (and it is a lot), why would you waste it?
