What Am I?

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who actually links to my blog. I don't think I've done that enough, and I should. So thank you very much.

With that out of the way, I have a question for all those who do link to me. I've noticed that the vast majority who put me on their blog rolls, and categorize their political blog rolls, put me on the "Right Side". That means I'm either labeled as being "To the Right", "Right Wing", "Republican", or similar. Only a few (like Dean) call me "Center", "Moderate", "Purple", or "Libertarian" (not that "Center" and "Libertarian" are synonymous by any means). To my knowledge... nobody claims that I'm liberal. If you think I'm liberal, let me know.

First off... I self describe myself as being a libertarian (small-l). I've talked about this a few times, here, here, here, and here. So if you throw me on the right side of the aisle... Why? Is it because you honestly think I am, because you choose not to have a third category, because it's convenient, or a secret choice number four that I'm not thinking of?

Nicole often times refers to me as her Conservative Republican friend... but I think she does that to rile me up more than anything else. For the record... here are some of my views in stark bullet points without any of the gray shading I'd normally apply if posting on any of these subjects individually:
  • I'm for the right to keep and bear arms as an individual right.
  • I'd legalize gambling.
  • I'm against abortion, and would make it illegal under most circumstances.
  • I'd legalize prostitution.
  • I think government should be much smaller than it is now in general.
  • School vouchers are oh so good and yummy.
  • Legalize gay marriage.
  • Privatize social security!
  • Legalize drugs.
  • I was for going into Afghanistan and Iraq, and think we should stay until its finished.
So what am I? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Comments:

I agree with you on one, two, three, five, six, eight, and ten. I tend to group libertarians and conservatives together (although I don't have groupings at all on my blog--I just simply don't include "lefty" bloggers :).

I agree quite a bit with libertarians on most issues, the two major exceptions being immigration and legalization of illicit drugs.

To me, Nick, you are Nick.

Unless you spend time at a blog, it's hard to determine where they fit (although there may be clues, like do they use the lefty blogs feed, have the Blogs for Bush logo, etc.).

I'm considering just blogrolling the Wisconsin blogs in one long list. Easier that way. Like how do you classify "leaning left" Belle? Depends how far she's leaning, I guess.

Daniel at GOP3 actually thinks that many Wisconsin conservative bloggers are more libertarian. That's how he classifies me.

By the looks of your picture, I would say that you are human, but that is just a guess.

You are a blogger who exercises. That puts you in a category all on your own.

I've always thought of you as a libertarian type. If I (a)had a blog and (b) a blogroll, that's the category I would stick you in. But that's just me.

Thanks for all the support and smart ass remarks (by some). ;) I forgot to mention immigration. I'm sick of illegals crossing the board... enough said.

If anyone is curious why I asked the question in the first place, it's because some campaign worker from the RNC started sending me emails out of the blue because apparently she thinks I'm a "Republican Blog", and I was trying to figure out why she thought that. Then I realized a lot of people who link to me consider me "right"... and it brought up the larger question.

She probably just saw my list of links and said... yeah probably. Made for good comment material if nothing else.

people like you are why I don't compartmentalize my blogroll. It's not worth the fight over which side we're on or aren't on....
