Bald Eagles Refuse to Move to Milwaukee 

Mequon, WI - Three miles north of the Milwaukee County line and a mile west of the steady drone of traffic on I-43, two adult bald eagles have made history by building a nest atop a dead hardwood tree along the Milwaukee River.

The young couple is believed to be the first pair of eagles nesting in southeastern Wisconsin in more than 100 years.

When the couple was asked why they moved to the suburbs, instead of somewhere in the inner city, the male said "We had been told by several local politicians that 'we weren't the right type of birds for Milwaukee'. We wanted to move to the city, but finally we got sick of the politics, and then we found this wonderful tree in the suburbs."

When asked to comment, Milwaukee Alderman Bob Donovan said that bald eagles were far too predatory for this city, and indeed weren't the right type of bird for Milwaukee. Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee) agreed, and went further saying, "We would much rather see some more Mourning Doves and Chickadees, rather than large birds that fly around eating other animals."
