How Desperate is Hollywood? And probably more aptly stated... how desperate is Sharon Stone? Basic Instinct 2? It's been 14 years since the first one, and they're just getting around to a sequel now? Are there absolutely no fresh ideas left in Hollywood, that they can only do crappy remakes of old movies, and sequels to other movies that are more than a decade old? Is this why networks seem to only be creating reality TV shows these days? Is this the only part that Sharon Stone could get? Are her legs just as good looking?
They're not completly stupid. People will pay to see it - and the movie will make a profit.
Case in point: "Dude, where's my car?" Cost to make - something like 15 million to make. Grossed 13.1 million in the FIRST weekend alone - going on to gross over 45 million. So they're gonna make a second one. Not cuz it's a good idea, but because it'll make money. It's all about making a buck. Or 30 million of them. The real idiots are the ones that pay to go see it.
I never said they were stupid. I said they were desperate, stale and uncreative.

But as you so correctly pointed out Matt... the difference between stupid-desperate-stale-uncreative and smart-desperate-stale-uncreative is how much money you make off of it. |
