It's All Our FaultBreaking in London right now are more terrorist attacks in the tube system. Information is still scarce, but it seems more low key than the attacks two weeks ago if that's even an appropriate phrase. Of course my thoughts are still with them for what it's worth. Almost as if on cue, Norm Geras has this article in The Guardian of all places chastising those who fault the UK for the attacks two weeks ago instead of the terrorists. It's an excellent column, and you need to read it. And already in the wake of the most recent attacks, Tony Blair is being asked whether its his fault for supporting the US in Iraq. Of course the same thing happened after 9/11. Wasn't it really all our fault for our policies in the Middle East? It's never the fault of the person carrying the bomb... its the fault of the person who made him feel angry. His response to the anger is apparently irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. That thinking always drives me insane. If you think that way... that its all our fault, and not the terrorists... let me ask you this. When a woman is raped... do you blame her and not the rapist because she was wearing provocative clothing? Just a thought. Update: Here's what Prime Minister Howard of Australia had to say in regards to those types of questions while answering questions with Tony Blair. Pretty much as close to a "shut the hell up" as a politician dares to use. Good for him.
Blaming Blair or Iraq is dumb and only encourages the terrorist by making them think they have had an effect on policy.
