Their Rules Are Weird

Sometimes I just have to rail against the English language. Everyone remembers this rule from grade school right?

"I before E, except after C, or when sounded like A as in neighbor and weigh."

Well, their and weird have the E before the I, and it's not after C, and they don't rhyme (don't get me started on the H in that word) with neighbor or weigh! How anyone is able to compete in a spelling bee is beyond me.

And why isn't phonetic spelled phonetically? And why is there an S in lisp? That's just cruel.

  1. Why do flammable and inflammable mean the same thing? And, what do I call something that doesn't burn?
